University Trailblazers Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-4 loss to Speedway on Monday. Speedway scored on a sacrifice fly by Pennington in the first inning, a groundout by Bryant in the first inning, a single by Valentine in the second inning, and a single by Gordon in the second inning.
Speedway got things moving in the first inning. Valentine drove in one when he singled.
Speedway scored three runs in the second inning. Speedway batters contributing to the big inning included Valentine and Gordon, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Borom earned the win for Speedway. He allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out five. Stutler threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Matt Moore took the loss for University Trailblazers Varsity. He went one and one-third innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out two.
University Trailblazers Varsity racked up nine hits on the day. Alex Washlock, Grayson Knight, and Nate Shatkowski all managed multiple hits for University Trailblazers Varsity. Shatkowski, Knight, and Washlock each collected two hits to lead University Trailblazers Varsity.
