lacrosse · Lacrosse Player’s Faceoff Challenge Raises Money for HEADstrong Foundation

Junior Neil Pettinga is using his love of lacrosse to raise money for individuals affected by cancer.

Faceoff Against Cancer Challenge

Faceoff-Against-CancerA FOGO (Face Off and Get Off) specialist for the University High School lacrosse team, Pettinga is participating in the Faceoff Against Cancer Challenge and asking supporters to pledge a donation to the HEADstrong Foundation for each faceoff he wins for the Trailblazers (or make a one-time flat donation). Given his performance in the past two seasons, it is estimated that Pettinga could win 200+ faceoffs this season.

The mission of the HEADstrong Foundation is to be relentless in improving the quality of life for those affected by cancer. The HEADstrong Foundation is fulfilling the vision of the late Nicholas Colleluori, the founder. Nick’s last wish was that others would benefit from his journey.

Club Lacrosse Successes

Neil-Pettinga-LacrosseIn addition to lacrosse at University High School, Pettinga is also active in club lacrosse. Recently, Pettinga was selected to compete in the 2018 USSSA National Lacrosse Classic in Delaware from July 16-19, 2018. He was nominated to try out by the head coach of mens lacrosse at Wabash College. Pettinga will compete in this tournament as part of a regional team, and the winning regional team will represent the U.S. in the 2018 Brogden Cup, a three-game international field lacrosse series held in Florida this summer.

Also this summer, Pettinga will join the best players from True Lacrosse teams across the country (he plays for True Lacrosse Indiana) on the True Lacrosse National Team. The team will compete in July 6-9, 2018 at the Liberty National Elite Classic tournament in Delaware.

Pettinga’s skill as a FOGO specialist has developed quickly in the short time he’s been playing at the position. In December, he was invited to the Faceoff Academy National Showcase in New Jersey, where he placed 45th in the country. And in January, he took 3rd place of all Midwest FOGO specialists in a Chicago competition.

Pettinga and his Trailblazer lacrosse teammates have their first match of the season on Thursday, March 15 at home against Center Grove High School. The match begins at 6:30 p.m. Good luck to all the Trailblazers this season!
