boys basketball · Boys Basketball Team Wins Sectional Championship

boys-basketball-sectionalThe University High School boys basketball team won their first sectional championship under head coach Brandon Lafferman on Saturday, March 3.

The Trailblazers defeated Indianapolis Metropolitan 44-41 in the championship game to claim the Class 1A Sectional 58 title. The Trailblazers also defeated the International School of Indiana in the semifinal round of the tournament.

Senior David Howard led the team in scoring in the championship game, with 19 points. Senior Foster Flamion added 12 points to give the team a second-half boost. Senior Zack Hodgin contributed five points, including a critical three points to seal the victory. Senior Josh Watson scored four, and both senior Ethan Sickels and Sam Mervis scored two.

The Trailblazers advance to the regional round of the IHSAA tournament on Saturday, March 10. They will face Morristown at Martinsville High School at 12 p.m.
